**Liverpool spent £466million in the summer transfer window and it hasn’t panned out exactly as Arne Slot would have hoped.**
Speaking to the media, [the Dutch manager has given his “completely honest” take](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2025/12/arne-slot-liverpool-rebuild-verdict-quotes/) on how things have gone this season, saying that he was perhaps _“too positive”_ about how quickly the transition would go.
While Hugo Ekitike has proven to be a revelation, and Florian Wirtz is finding his feet, the £125m spent to sign Alexander Isak is yet to pay any real kind of dividends.
After his lack of a pre-season, Isak has been far beyond the physical standard expected of a forward of his calibre.
Having played 15 games for the Reds, the Swede has just two goals and an assist to his name, casting major doubt over his transfer to Anfield.
Now, former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has suggested the club might look to sell him in the summer.
Liverpool might look to sell Isak to a club like Barcelona if he doesn’t improve
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool are not a club to make rash decisions, so this feels a tad bit hasty but Hamann says there is a chance they could sell Isak and maybe even Florian Wirtz.
Hamann said: _“I’m not sure Liverpool will sell anyone in January, but if things don’t pick up for Alexander Isak come March or April, they’ll probably have discussions to sell him to a club like Barcelona in the summer._
_“There will be plenty of takers for Isak because he’s shown his ability at Newcastle. It also largely depends on the form of Ekitike, because if he continues to improve, it will be a struggle for Isak to get games unless he’s forced out wide._
_“If Liverpool don’t perform, then they won’t be forced to sell. However, players like Alexander Isak or Florian Wirtz may have their futures looked at if they aren’t performing and the club aren’t in the Champions League.”_
Given that Liverpool would be guaranteed to make a massive loss on both Isak and Wirtz if they decided to sell, this doesn’t seem likely a likely avenue that the Reds could take.
Even if Isak is earning £280,000 per week, he is a world class player and just needs time.
