Manchester United are keen on signing a Liverpool target during the January transfer window.
Liverpool are targeting back-to-back Premier League wins when they travel to Tottenham on Saturday. Arne Slot’s side sit seventh in the table following last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Brighton. After starting the season as title contenders, a run of defeats stalled the Reds’ momentum, while Mohamed Salah’s public frustration over reduced game time added to the noise. The Egyptian forward will miss the trip to north London after linking up with his national team for the Africa Cup of Nations.
With the January transfer window approaching, Liverpool have been linked with several players, including Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo. The Reds have already held positive talks with Bournemouth over Semenyo, who has scored seven goals and provided three assists this season.
According to i Paper, Manchester United are also pushing for the Ghana international and are the frontrunners for a £65m deal. Bournemouth could demand a significant upfront fee, with negotiations likely to centre on payment terms. United are prepared to move quickly despite initially planning a quiet January, with Semenyo fitting Ruben Amorim’s search for a versatile wide forward.
United had pursued the Ghanaian last summer but were deterred by Bournemouth’s £80m asking price. However, the existence of a release clause has now made a potential move more feasible. Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola earlier disclosed that Semenyo remains unaffected by the ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
The Spaniard said: “We cannot only analyse the numbers. He’s not our number nine. He’s a winger that gives us a lot of goals and a lot of assists, and he gives us chances normally. He was the biggest threat against Chelsea the other day. I don’t feel [transfer speculation] is affecting him a lot. When you hear your name every day in the news you have to deal with the situation, but I think he’s committed, and I haven’t seen a lot of changes in him.”
