The biggest story to emerge late this week concerning Manchester City came from David Ornstein in a piece for The Athletic. Ornstein reported that Manchester City had the Chelsea manager in their sights as a potential replacement for Pep Guardiola. It was also reported by Ornstein that ‘sources outside of Manchester City’ believed that Guardiola could depart his post as Manchester City manager at the end of this season. You knew that Guardiola was going to be asked about his future during his pre-game press conference today ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League clash with West Ham. Pep Guardiola’s answer to that particular question made his intentions clear for his immediate future.
Pep Guardiola has 18 months left on his current contract, as he stated today.
When asked about his future as Manchester City manager today, Pep Guardiola provided an emphatic answer on his intentions. He explained that he has 18 months left on his current contract and he will see that out. He explained when asked about his future: “*The last three or four years every time someone asks me that question. Sooner or later, when I’m 75 or 76, I will quit City. I understand the question but I have 18 months left and I am so delighted. That question happens every single season and I’m okay.*”
“*There are no discussions – end of the subject. I will not be here eternal here, none of us will be forever in this world but there are no discussions. What is going to happen will happen and the club has to be prepared for everything. The club has to be prepared but that subject is not on the table right now.*”
“*I’m here. What’s going to happen who knows but if I have 10 years on my contract or six months, football changes a lot. Now I’m focused on West Ham and go for a few days with my dad and that’s all, come back for Nottingham and Sunderland and Brighton, and Chelsea.*”

There is nothing to suggest that Guardiola is leaving Manchester City anytime soon.
As stated yesterday there is nothing to suggest that Pep Guardiola is set to leave his post as Manchester City manager anytime soon. He seems to be reinvigorated this season and the challenge of building and leading Manchester City’s next dominant side is at the forefront of Pep Guardiola’s mind. That is obvious to see for anyone who is a keen observer of Manchester City’s matches. There is also another telling comment to emerge for Pep Guardiola’s answer about his future today.
Pep Guardiola said that at a certain point over the past three of four years question marks emerge about his future. Manchester City are currently two points behind Arsenal on the Premier League table and have won their past six matches in all competitions. It does seem strange that all of a sudden stories emerge over Pep Guardiola’s future. But he has stated his intentions to see out his current contract, so hopefully the subject is put to bed for the time being. Whether or not Guardiola’s answer does that remains to be seen. For me, there was only one way to interpret Pep Guardiola’s answer on his future and that is that he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Pep Guardiola was asked about his future as Manchester City manager today. After David Ornstein’s report yesterday that isn’t a surprise. Despite Ornstein’s report stating that it is expected that Guardiola will leave City at the end of this season, Pep Guardiola has seemingly put to bed that idea and he is determined to at least see out his current contract and continue leading his new-look team for this season and beyond.
