Domantas Sabonis has participated in just 11 of the Sacramento Kings’ 27 games up to this point, having missed 13 consecutive games with a reported partially torn meniscus in his left knee.
When that first occurred, the team announced that their star center would be re-evaluated in three to four weeks. Friday, December 19th, was the four-week mark, and the organization provided another update.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work in his favor when it came to him getting back on the court.
Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis continues to progress through the current phase of his rehabilitation for a partial meniscus tear in his left knee. He will be re-evaluated in approximately 4-5 weeks, based on his clinical progress. His status will be updated as appropriate.
Sacramento Kings Press Release (12/19/25)
In the 11 games Sabonis has played, he’s averaged 17.2 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 51 percent shooting and 20 percent from beyond the three-point line. Given his absence, Kings head coach Doug Christie has relied on youth.
Rookie Maxime Raynaud has impressed since being inserted into the starting lineup in Sabonis’s absence, but he’s far from the caliber of player he’s filling in for. In Thursday’s game in Portland, Raynaud tallied a career-high 29 points and 11 rebounds in the overtime loss.
While he (or anyone else) won’t be able to replicate Sabonis’s production, it’s a good opportunity to continue developing their young talent, including not only Raynaud but also fellow rookie Dylan Cardwell.
The 2025-26 Sacramento Kings will be worse off without Sabonis, but at 6-21 this season, that may not be the worst-case scenario for an organization that currently lacks direction.
Given the four-to-five-week timeline provided, Sabonis will miss approximately 12 to 15 more games for the Kings.

“For game? Anything I say, I’m going to get fined up here, so. I got a lot to say, so I probably shouldn’t say nothing,” Sacramento Kings head coach Doug Christie said after his team suffered a close loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Up one with seconds remaining, Deni Avdija drove towards the basket and drew a foul from Russell Westbrook. Upon review, while there was some contact that occurred, it seemed baffling to call that in the final moments of a close competition.
Avdija converted the free throws and helped the Blazers secure a 134-133 win over the visiting Kings. Coach Christie’s confusion was evident in is postgame comments. Surely he was far from the only one who held those feelings.
