Derrick White put on one of the best shooting performances of his career on Friday night, helping lead the Celtics to a 129-116 win over the Heat at TD Garden.
White matched his career-high by knocking down nine 3-point attempts, making him Friday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The performance left White just two makes shy of matching the franchise record for most 3s in a game of 11, held by Marcus Smart.
The sharpshooting from the perimeter led to White finishing with a game-high 33 points in the win while also chipping in with four assists and a game-high four blocks. Boston didn’t play with much energy during the first three quarters of the performance, but it was White’s shooting that helped them keep pace with Miami. The floodgates opened from downtown in the fourth quarter for White’s teammates as well, helping Boston pull away for the win after making 10 3s in the frame.
The career night continues what has been a superb month of December for White after a sluggish start to the year. The veteran guard has now scored 20 or more points in five of his last seven games while shooting over 50 percent from the field in those contests. White is also averaging five made 3s per game during that run, which has lifted his season 3-point shooting percentage up to 35 percent.
White will look to keep up the momentum with a quick turnaround on Saturday night as Boston heads up north to face off with the Raptors.
