ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Crimson from both the Sooners and the Tide is expected to flood Oklahoma Friday night for the first round of the College Football Playoff, and Ardmore’s only sports bar is preparing for a packed house.
The Station is gearing up for what owner Chris Wright expects to be an even larger crowd than the NBA Finals just months ago.
“The Thunder, that was one thing... The Sooner’s, that’s another,” Wright said. “I think there are more Sooner fans than there are Thunder fans if I’m going to be honest with you, so we’re gearing up for a busy day.”
Some fans arrived as early as noon, planning to camp out until the evening kickoff.
“It’s going to be crazy, there’s going to be a lot of energy and there’s probably going to be a few Alabama fans in here, but probably not going to be good for them,” said Shannan Conyers.
For other Sooner fans, The Station serves as a pit stop on their journey to Norman.
“My brother from Atlanta is traveling in, my other brother from Birmingham, he’s traveling in with his family,” said Trevor McCawley. “So, we’re going to get together before the game, have probably a couple of cocktails and hopefully celebrate after the win.”
Fans are getting pumped up to cheer on their team at Owen Field.
“I feel pretty good. There’s going to be a lot of emotion, but I’m going to tell you, Norman’s going to be rocking,” said Beryl Shreve.
Whether fans watch at Owen Field or The Station, the energy will be electric.
