Kevin Punter's career 43-point night: Coach compares him to Barca legend

Barcelona head coach Xavi Pascual said Kevin Punter reminded him of the club’s legend Juan Carlos Navarro during his career night, scoring 43 points in an incredible triple-overtime win against Baskonia.

The game between FC Barcelona and Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz will go down in EuroLeague history as one of the best games ever.

Friday night’s matchup at Palau Blaugrana finished in a triple-overtime 134-124 win for Barcelona, with multiple EuroLeague scoring records broken and one of the most incredible individual performances in recent memory.

Kevin Punter was the hero of the game for Barca, breaking the club’s EuroLeague record for most points in a single game and finishing with the fourth-highest scoring outburst in league history with 43 points (12/19 2PT, 4/7 3PT, 7/7 FT).

While Punter called this game one of the best of his career after the final buzzer, the team’s head coach, Xavi Pascual, said Punter reminded him of another Barcelona great with his performance.

“I’ve experienced that moment as if it was lost, and in those situations, a player has to step up. Today, he reminded me of Juan Carlos Navarro in special moments,” Pascual said at the press conference after the game.

Kevin Punter is averaging 15.7 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 3 assists per game this season in the EuroLeague, with this career performance pushing Barcelona to a 12-5 record after Round 17, tied for the top spot in the standings.
