Outside of the court, though, Ja Morant is making moves, planning his entry into the European basketball landscape.
The American point guard, through his media company Catch 12, has invested in EuroStep Ventures (ESV), the parent company of French basketball team Levallois Metropolitans, currently playing in the French third division.
Metropolitans are well-known to be the team where Victor Wembanyama played before making his jump to the NBA.
This investment is part of a strategy to establish a presence in the dynamic and competitive Parisian market.
The Metropolitans are aiming to return to the professional ranks as soon as possible. Luc Dayan, a key figure in the project, has confirmed preliminary discussions with the NBA regarding potential European expansion.
The exact amount of the investment hasn't been disclosed, but Sam Katzin-Simon, co-founder of EuroStep Ventures, confirmed that it's a significant one.
Phil Morant, CEO of Catch 12, commented on the company's investment in Metropolitans in this way.
"This is not just an investment in a basketball club; it is an investment in people, culture, and possibility. At Catch12, we measure success by what we leave behind. Investing in EuroStep is not just a business decision. What EuroStep is doing in Paris reminds us that when you combine vision with values, you can create something that shapes both the game and the people it touches for generations.”
