For Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal, the Estadio de la Ceramica is one of those places where he has always been at his best.
For Barcelona’s number 10, it has become a familiar theatre, one where he has repeatedly turned promise into performance.
This Sunday, Barcelona return to Villarreal, and memories from recent visits inevitably point in one direction.
Yamal’s first official appearance at La Ceramica came in August 2023, in a chaotic and unforgettable 4-3 win.
At just 16 years old, Yamal played with a calmness that defied logic. He delivered a perfectly measured curling assist for Gavi, becoming the youngest assist provider in La Liga this century.
The numbers from that night only tell part of the story – multiple shots, two that struck the woodwork, successful dribbles and crisp passing.
More memorable nights
Fast forward to September 2024, and the pattern repeated itself. Flick’s Barcelona swept aside Villarreal with a dominant 5-1 victory, and once again, Yamal was at the heart of everything.

A sublime outside-of-the-foot assist, his signature touch, set up Raphinha. He won a penalty with a smooth run and constantly gave the impression that every dangerous move passed through his boots.
That night also highlighted another side of his maturity. A heavy challenge from a Villarreal player raised concerns on the Barcelona bench.
Yet the youngster carried on unfazed, continuing to create and influence the match as if the noise around him simply did not matter.
Two visits to Villarreal. Two standout performances.
Now, as La Ceramica welcomes the Barcelona warrior, Yamal is well aware of the pattern.
When he feels comfortable on a pitch, football turns into a show. And in this stadium, he has made a habit of finding himself.
