Mohamed Salah apologised to Liverpool squad after explosive interview

Mo Salah apologised to his Liverpool teammates after his bombshell comments after the Leeds match triggered a storm, Curtis Jones has revealed.

It has only been two weeks since Salah stood in front of the press and spoke of a non-existent relationship with Arne Slot and feeling as though he was thrown under the bus.

It came after starting three games on the bench and triggered everyone in English football to have their say on what Salah, Slot and the club should do next.

An apology was something many thought Salah should make, and Jones has told Sky Sports that there was one for the dressing room.

“Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff. He apologised to us and was like, ‘If I’ve affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologise’,” Jones revealed.

“That’s the man that he is. He’s got his own stuff going on, that’s his issue. I don’t even know if it’s an issue, but that’s his own thing.

“As I said, he’s his own man, and I don’t like to be in another man’s business. I can only speak from me knowing Mo and how he is with us and how he acted on that. He was positive as well.

“He was the exact same Mo, he had a big smile on his face and everybody was exactly the same with him. I guess it’s just part of wanting to be a winner, and I don’t think he will be the last.

“I get that there are certain ways you can go about things, but if a lad’s fine to just be on the bench and he doesn’t want to play because he wants to help the team, then I think that’s more of an issue.

“When there’s been any sort of anger from us, including myself, it’s always been from a good place.

“In the moment, it might not have come out in the right way, but it’s never been to ever affect the team, the staff, the manager, anybody like that.

“We’re past that now and we’re gelling well as a team, playing well and we’re starting to win games.”

It is an interesting insight from a player who had a front row seat to what transpired behind the scenes, with Jones recognising Salah’s winner mentality.

Slot won’t speak about Salah during AFCON

On Friday, Slot insisted the rift was behind him and Salah after the winger was allowed back into the fold against Brighton, but that he won’t speak further while he is at AFCON.

“I said last week, actions speak louder than words,” Slot told reporters. “We moved on, he was in the squad and he was the first substitution I made.

“Now he’s at the AFCON, playing big games for himself and also for his country, so I think it’s fair to them that all the focus is, for him, over there.

“But definitely also for us, because are going to play some very important games.

“There should not be any distractions from me saying anything about his time here at Liverpool, because as I said, we’ve moved on after the Leeds interview and he played against Brighton.

“Now he’s there, so it’s fair for the country and for him and also for us to talk, for us, about Tottenham and other games, and for them to be fully focused on their tournament.”
