Liverpool legend speaks out on Antoine Semenyo transfer links

The Bournemouth forward is set to become a highly wanted man in January.

The Bournemouth forward is set to become a highly wanted man in January.

The Premier League close in on the opening of the January transfer window.

Despite spending a record-breaking amount of money in the summer, Liverpool have fallen short of what was expected of them so far this season.

Currently sat in seventh place in the Premier League table, it is thought that the Reds will explore the possibility of delving into the January transfer market.

That is why there is an increased possibility that they will try and push to sign Antoine Semenyo in the winter.

The forward has scored seven goals and provided three assists in sixteen games so far this season.

Form that has grabbed the interest of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

Semenyo has been linked with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Manchester United, with the winger said to be available in the first 10 days of the window for £65million if teams activate his release clause.

Despite all this excitement, Liverpool legend John Barnes have urged Liverpool not to sign the forward.

Speaking to The Mirror, Barnes said: “January is not a time to sign players. And if you look at what we have, we haven’t got a problem scoring goals and creating chances.”

“We’ve got Gakpo, we’ve got Isak, we’ve got Wirtz, we still have Mo. We have Ngumoha. That is not a problem for us.”

“We have a good enough squad. He’s a good player. The club have to decide. I think we have problems in other positions that we need to look at before Semenyo.”

It remains to be seen what Liverpool will decide to do in January, and if they do push for a move, they will face significant competition for Semenyo’s signature.
