Newcastle United drew 2-2 with Chelsea in the Premier League - but it was a game full of controversial referee calls.

Nick Woltemade put the Magpies 2-0 up before half-time in what was the perfect riposte after his derby day own goal. Deservedly in front at the break the match flipped on its head from there on, as Chelsea gripped control of the encounter.

A quite brilliant Reece James free-kick just after the break reduced the deficit before a Malick Thiaw slip allowed Joao Pedro to level.

But despite it being a remarkable game of football, it was Madley’s decision not to give NUFC a penalty, when Anthony Gordon was brought down in the area. A late call not to red card James and hand the Magpies a dangerous free-kick also drew some criticism from the fans at St James’ Park.
