Here's how the players rated:
**NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):**
**7 Ramsdale:** Beaten by a brilliant free-kick for goal that gave Chelsea the springboard they needed for second half fightback. Solid showing and brilliant distribution led to late Elanga chance.
**8 Miley:** Far greater test than Fulham considering the standard of opposition. Another quality display out of position, particularly in the first half.
**6 Thiaw:** Good in the first half but wrong-footed by Pedro as Brazilian striker scored Chelsea leveller.
**6 Schar:** Went close with a fizzing first half volley. Had a couple of other chances in opposition box.
**8 Hall:** Excellent display on his return to the side. Has a real chance of being England's starting left-back at World Cup if he can stay fit.
**8 Tonali:** Looked back to his best in the first half. Lost some control in the second but still tireless.
**7 Bruno:** At the heart of the action in the first half. Tried to get Newcastle back on front foot after Chelsea fightback.
**6 Ramsey:** Tidy in the first half but the second period passed him by.
**6 Murphy:** Delivered cross that led to opener.. Sloppy after the break and replaced with 20 minutes to play.
**8 Gordon**: Unplayable in the first half when he created both goals for Woltemade. Didn’t have the same impact after the break and Reece James did a good job on the England international after he was moved to right-back.
**8 Woltemade:** Hugely important first goal and fine finish for his second. Exactly what the striker needed after Sunderland. Eddie Howe felt this was the striker's best display in a Newcastle shirt.
