Liverpool are not the only team in Europe who have looked at the player in recent times, though.
Shakhtar Donetsk are understood to have had an offer accepted for Mec.
But as he explained in an interview with ESPN this week, the attacking midfielder decided against completing that move.
He said: “Well, to tell you the truth, Gremio’s management even accepted that offer. They tried to talk to us, but I talked to my family, my agents, my manager, and we thought it was better not to go.
“It’s a very good club, a training ground, that gives athletes playing time, provides opportunities, and always sells them well, but we thought it best not to go now because I still dream of playing more for Gremio, I can still help this club a lot, so we thought it best not to go now.”
