Confirmed: Dominik Szoboszlai to miss Liverpool vs. Wolves

Dominik Szoboszlai will miss Liverpool’s next Premier League match against Wolves after being shown his fifth yellow card of the campaign.

Szoboszlai had safely navigated five games without being cautioned, but knew he would miss the next game if he added to his four previous cards at Tottenham.

He could not escape the attention of referee John Brooks as the trip to Tottenham turned frantic in the final exchanges, earning himself a place in the stands on December 27.

Players are suspended for one match in the Premier League after five cautions before and including the 19th game, with the threshold reset to 10 cards thereafter for a two-game ban.

The midfielder was cautioned against Everton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Man City prior to his booking in north London, which will now leave Arne Slot another player short.

Wolves make the trip to Anfield on December 27 and it will be the first league match the Hungarian has not featured in this season, having only missed the two League Cup games this season.

His versatility has been vital to Liverpool, who could be without Conor Bradley if an issue was picked up against Tottenham, while Jeremie Frimpong is unlikely to be fit to start.

It could afford Calvin Ramsay a starting berth against the Premier League‘s cellar dwellers, or Curtis Jones could be tasked with the job once more in another reshuffle to the side.

You could argue the timing is ideal for Liverpool, and it means Szoboszlai will be available again for Leeds‘ visit on New Year’s Day.
