Alexander Isak sustained a serious-looking injury in the motion of scoring against Tottenham, and Arne Slot offered what he could after full-time.
One thing Liverpool did not need from their trip to Tottenham was more injuries, but fortune was not on Slot’s side in that respect.
In the motion of scoring the opener, Isak’s left leg was caught in a sliding challenge from Micky van de Ven, and there was no celebration as he immediately clutched at his leg.
The stretcher was called, but the No. 9 was eventually assisted off the pitch and down the tunnel, just 15 minutes after replacing Conor Bradley at halftime.
Speaking after the match, Slot could not offer a concrete update on Isak, saying: “I don’t have any news on him.
“But if a player scores and then gets injured and doesn’t try to come back on the pitch, that’s usually not a good thing.
“I cannot say any more than that, it’s just a gut feeling, nothing medical to say about it.”
Asked if Isak had any feeling on the severity of the injury, Slot added: “I haven’t spoken to him about that yet.
“But it’s a good thing that he scored, a good goal!”
Slot added that it is a “wait and see” situation for Isak and Conor Bradley, who the Swede replaced at half time, but he does not want to be “too negative” on his striker’s prognosis.
“Let’s not be too negative yet, we don’t know yet (the severity), let’s hope he’s back with us soon, but difficult to say it to you now,” Slot said.

Liverpool are already without Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni, Wataru Endo and Cody Gakpo due to injury, and Mohamed Salah is absent due to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Dominik Szoboszlai will also miss the visit of Wolves on December 27 after earning a one-match suspension after his fifth yellow card of the season, and Bradley is now under an injury cloud as well.
Slot will be thankful there are only two games on the schedule in the next 12 days, but the second starts a run of nine games in 31 days throughout January, in which Liverpool will need the depth of their squad.
With Isak having struggled for fitness since his deadline day move, it is another untimely blow to the forward options, which will continue to ask more of Hugo Ekitike.
