Xavi Simons was one of two Tottenham players to be sent off during Liverpool’s win against Tottenham.
The Reds managed to get all three points against Spurs in a very chaotic game, with this fixture synonymous with controversy.
This game was no different either as it involved a controversial goal and two red cards, although it was hard to argue against Simons’.

He was late on his fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk, eventually getting sent off after an on-field review.
Simons has now come out and apologised to the Liverpool captain after the dust has settled, with it clear he will not be doing anything like that again.

Simons’ tackle was by no means malicious, but it was very late and high, with his studs raking down the back of van Dijk’s calf.
At the time, he was annoyed by the decision, but now, he appears to have understood why the referee sent him off, with his apology a clear sign of acknowledgement.

“Mistakes happen. Virg is my captain, I would never intentionally hurt him or anyone,” he wrote on his Instagram.

Cristian Romero was the second Spurs player to be sent off, although his was for a second bookable offence after kicking out at Ibrahima Konate.
Liverpool did not look like they had the advantage
Despite playing most of the game with a man advantage, and even two-man advantage, towards the end, Liverpool did not play like it.
They were probably the worst of the two sides towards the end of the game, with the Reds very lucky to come away with the win.
Richarlison in particular changed the game, something Liverpool fans will hate given his links to Everton.
Performances will still have to improve if they are to beat the very top teams in the division, but for now, it will do.
