The Indiana Pacers have made two fringe roster moves prior to a clash against another of the NBA’s (likely) lottery teams, the New Orleans Pelicans.
Per Tony East of Forbes, Indiana has inked returning center James Wiseman to a new 10-day deal via its hardship exception. In a corresponding move, Indiana has cut power forward Gabe McGlothan.
This is hardly Wiseman’s first go-round with the Pacers.
Indiana first signed Wiseman to a veteran’s minimum deal during the 2024 offseason, but he lasted just one game before tearing his Achilles tendon and being ruled out for the balance of the club’s Finals-bound 2024-25 season.
After starting Pacers center Myles Turner defected for a four-year, $108.9 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks in free agency this past summer, Indiana head coach Rick Carlisle essentially held a four-man competition for three planned center spots in training camp. Indiana had traded to acquire sharpshooter Jay Huff, and he would be pitted against incumbents Wiseman, Tony Bradley and a re-signed Isaiah Jackson, who had also torn his Achilles during the early goings of 2024-25.
