Arsenal won on the road in the Premier League for the first time in four games, [overcoming Everton 1-0 thanks to Viktor Gyokeres’ first half penalty](https://arseblog.news/2025/12/report-everton-0-1-arsenal-inc-goal/).
The win returned the Gunners to the top of the table after Manchester City had briefly climbed above them following their win over West Ham.
After the game, Gyokeres and man-of-the-match Bukayo Saka spoke to _Sky Sports_. Here’s what they had to say…
**On Everton’s approach…**
**BS:** Yeah, they made it really tough. Also on us to not kill the game in certain moments, but credit to them. It’s always tough coming here and we’re just happy we got the win in the end.
**On what Everton were doing that made it such a tough game…**
**BS:** I think they have a good structure and the intensity they played. The fans and obviously all their players are so passionate, so they gave everything – that made it hard for us, but like I said, we had our chances.
**On the thinking behind Gyokeres taking the penalty…**
**VG:** It’s a few that can take it and this time it was me that took it. It was important to score that one, so it was nice.
**On hitting his penalty with power…**
**VG:** Yeah, it’s usually like that.
**On the importance of getting a goal…**
**VG:** Yeah, you always want to score goals, that’s the main target every game for all the attacking players. That’s what we want to do. Of course, today we could have scored a few more, but the most important is that we won the game.
**On how he’s been feeling this season…**
**VG:** I try to do my best always on the pitch. Of course, you need to get to know the system, how we play, and then fit into that role and adapt to that. But yeah, we’re playing quite well, we’re performing, we’re in a good position in the league and Champions League. We just keep going like this.
**On City winning earlier in the day and Arsenal needing to respond…**
**BS:** There’s not really any emotions in it, we take the emotions out. We just know we’re focused on our job. Since last week, we were focused on winning here, and we did that today. We’re back on top of the table, but we’re not watching City too much or the other teams. We just know we’re in control now, and if we win every week and we’ll stay there.
