Mainly, it was Kevin Durant and Bruce Brown who went at it and had to be separated after their heated spat.
With less than three minutes left in the third quarter, both players exchanged spicy words. Durant continued jawing against Tim Hardaway Jr. and other Nuggets players, as Brown headed to the bench and tried to fire up the Ball Arena crowd.
Right after the game, Brown offered intriguing words about what happened between him and Durant.
"It’s been cool, but I think it’s been cut slow now," Brown said about his relationship with Durant, who was his teammate for two years in the Brooklyn Nets. "After tonight, some words were said that were a little disrespectful. So I can’t wait to see him next time."
Brown further said, "As a man, there are certain things you don't say to another man."
On his end, Durant also addressed his confrontation with Brown and the comments made by the Nuggets forward against him in the postgame presser.
"I definitely wanted to cross the line tonight," Durant said. "That’s basketball. It’s in between the lines. Ain’t no respect. Ain’t no love – nothing. When people don’t show love to me, they cross the line a lot with their physicality. You know what I’m saying?
"It’s part of the game. Some people can talk and play. Some people can’t. I had to learn how to talk and play as a player. I think Bruce is probably learning the same thing."
Durant eventually hurled another jab toward Brown: "When we’re playing against each other, once again, I might cross the line. If that offends you, that’s on you. Next game, I’m sure Bruce will be better from that, but I crossed the line tonight."
Both Brown and Durant will still meet for the final time this regular season on March 11 in Denver.
Durant powered the Rockets with a game-high 31 points, while Brown had 12 points and 12 rebounds off the bench on a 115-101 losing effort for the Nuggets.
