'I think': Alisson Becker claims Alexander Isak 'will be okay' as Liverpool clarify nature of injury

Liverpool fans are facing a nervous wait to learn the extent of the injury Alexander Isak sustained on Saturday evening.

The Swede finally found the back of the net after a four-game drought, firing the Reds ahead with an unerring strike against Tottenham Hotspur.

But the finish came at a cost for Isak, who was taken out by the sliding Micky van de Ven.

Sadly, Isak could not continue, and given the pain he was clearly in while being assessed by the Liverpool physios, there are now worries that he could miss a substantial amount of football.

As fans prepare to hear the worst, however, Alisson Becker has spoken out to put a more positive slant on the situation.

Alexander Isak injury could be ‘just a knock’

Due to the way he reacted to Van de Ven’s tackle, rumours have begun to float around on social media that Isak may have sustained a serious knee injury.

ACL damage is something every footballer truly dreads, and if Isak has hurt his knee, then that would mean his season would be over.

Speaking to Stadium Astro after the game, though, Alisson suggested his new teammate had avoided such a serious problem.

“I think he’ll be okay,” said the goalkeeper. “Happy for him for scoring the goal but of course we don’t want him to be injured.

“Hopefully it’s just a knock, nothing too serious, because he can help our team so much with his quality and that’s what we hope.”

Liverpool not expecting a knee injury for Isak

After struggling to adapt to Liverpool since his enormous summer transfer, a long-term injury is the absolute last thing Isak needs right now.

Thankfully, the early signs appear to be that the Sweden international has avoided anything serious to do with his knees.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Liverpool ‘suspect’ Isak has injured his ‘lower leg’ rather than knee.

This could still be problematic, of course, with Isak’s ankle perhaps set to become the focus of attention. If there is ligament damage, the No. 9 could still be facing an extended period out.

Isak will reportedly undergo a scan on Sunday to determine the next course of action.
