Tottenham given second chance after winger once tipped to replace Mahrez set to leave…

Manchester City are open to listening to offers for one of their wingers in the January transfer window amid Tottenham interest.

Tottenham Hotspur had a productive summer transfer window as they made seven signings to back their new boss Thomas Frank. However, they failed to land a replacement for club icon Son Heung-min, who decided to end his time at White Hart Lane and spend the twilight of his career with MLS club Los Angeles FC.

Spurs notably made several attempts to sign Manchester City winger Savinho in the summer transfer window. Savinho had agreed personal terms with Tottenham, making it clear to Manchester City that he was interested in joining Thomas Frank’s squad. However, a move failed to materialise as Pep Guardiola felt the need to keep the Brazil international in his squad.

The Lilywhites’ interest in Savinho has not faded. It was reported back in September that the Europa League champions could reignite their interest in the Man City winger when the transfer window reopens on January 1, 2026.

Ex-Manchester United chief scout claims Man City are open to listening to January offers for Savinho

Savinho has endured a disappointing 2025/26 campaign thus far. The wide attacker has failed to open his Man City account in the Premier League this season. He has only started four league fixtures, finding himself behind the likes of Jeremy Doku, Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki in the pecking order.

There was a time when Savinho was tipped to be the replacement for former star man Riyad Mahrez. He even took his No. 26 jersey when he joined the club. However, things never panned out at the club as he or the fans would have hoped for.

Now, former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers chief scout Mick Brown has revealed that Man City are open to letting Savinho leave in the January transfer window. Pep Guardiola does not see the 21-year-old as a regular starter and the Sky Blues are now ready to sanction his departure, provided the interested parties can meet the “huge” asking price.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Savinho leave City in January,” Mick Brown told Football Insider.

“He has been relegated to more of a backup role because Cherki has come in and hit the ground running, and Doku and Foden have both stepped up.

“Savinho is a top player, but at the moment, he’s not improving or making himself a regular there. Guardiola doesn’t see him as a starter ahead of those other players I named, so there’s every chance that if they get an offer, they could let him go.

“We know City like to have that depth in their squad, but say someone comes in with a huge offer for him, I think they would let him go.

“Tottenham were obviously interested during the summer and nothing came of it, but that interest is still going to be there from them and other clubs too.”

Tottenham must revive interest in Savinho

Having ended their pursuit of Antoine Semenyo, Tottenham must now look to reignite their interest in Savinho. Thomas Frank is seemingly not content with his wide options, especially on the left, which should prompt the north Londoners to make a move for the City attacker.

Spurs lack a disruptive winger, someone who can add a touch of unpredictability and flair to their attack. This makes Savinho a natural target for them, especially due to his speed, directness, dynamism and dribbling skills. Having found regular minutes tough to come by this season, the youngster could jump at the opportunity to join Tottenham in January in a bid to get some consistent game time to bolster his hopes of getting into the Brazil squad for next summer’s World Cup.

Only time will tell whether Frank’s Spurs decide to knock on City’s door again to sign Savinho.
