Alexander Isak suffered an injury while breaking the deadlock for Liverpool against Tottenham Hotspur.

A physio has claimed Alexander Isak could face up to 12 weeks on the sidelines after suffering an injury against Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Newcastle United striker broke the deadlock for Liverpool in their 2-1 win yesterday. However, Isak’s strike came at a cost, with Micky van de Ven’s challenge forcing him off the pitch.

Isak required treatment before multiple members of the Liverpool coaching setup helping him limp to the touchline. Replays showed the 26-year-old’s leg get trapped underneath Van de Ven in an awkward angle.

Arne Slot post-match comments

When facing the media post-match, Liverpool boss Arne Slot admitted the fact Isak did not want to continue after scoring a goal was “not a good thing”. He did not give a definitive answer on his expected injury timeline.

“I don’t have any news on him,” Slot said. “But if a player scores and then gets injured and doesn’t try to come back on the pitch, that’s usually not a good thing.

“I cannot say any more than that, it’s just a gut feeling, nothing medical to say about it. I haven’t spoken to him about that yet. But it’s a good thing that he scored… a good goal! Let’s not be too negative yet, we don’t know yet (the severity), let’s hope he’s back with us soon, but it is difficult to say it to you now.”

Social media physio assess Alexander Isak

An online physio, @physioscout, has claimed Isak could spend three months on the sidelines if the ankle knock affected his knee. But writing on X, it was suggested that a “high ankle sprain” is more likely - a setback that takes up to 10 weeks to heal.

“Alexander Isak had to come off in Liverpool vs Spurs with a leg injury,” Physio Scout wrote. “Scissor-tackle type mechanism typically brings concern for a high/medial ankle sprain, potentially due to forced ankle eversion and rotation.

“Fibula (lower leg bone) also is a common injury site due to direct contact. These types of tackles can also place stress on the knee structures due to forced valgus, particularly the MCL. ACL is also vulnerable, but less likely.

“Expected Recovery Times: If high ankle sprain: 8-10 weeks. If medial ankle sprain: 2-6 weeks. If MCL: depending on grade, can range from 2-12 weeks. The most likely scenario here is a high ankle sprain, X-rays and further scans will be needed to clear any fracture sites.”

‘More complicated than it seems’ - Alexander Isak

In midweek, Isak hinted to Swedish media that the full story on his explosive summer exit has not been disclosed. He said: “Isak also hinted at there being stories yet to be told regarding his explosive summer exit. For now, he is preferring to keep his Newcastle career “in the past” and succeed on Merseyside.

“I can say this, things are always more complicated than they seem,” Isak added. “I have talked about this, but I have not gone into depth. And it is not something that I want to do, based on the fact that I have put it behind me. I am focusing forward, there is no benefit in going into it or opening it up - neither for me nor for anyone else. It must remain in the past.”
