Just in: David Ornstein shares 'significant' injury update on Liverpool forward Alexander Isak

Liverpool fear striker Alexander Isak has suffered a 'significant' injury to his leg after their win against Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend, David Ornstein has reported.

Isak struck in the second half against Spurs after coming off the bench, latching on to a throughball from Florian Wirtz before expertly placing the ball past the goalkeeper. Unfortunately for the Swedish striker, he collided with Micky Van de Ven while scoring the goal, and he was unable to continue after that.

Isak looked in a lot of discomfort as he hobbled off the pitch, with the former Newcastle United man in visible pain. His goal for the Merseyside club showed what he's truly capable of after a disappointing start to life at Anfield, and it's typical for him that he's going to be on the sidelines for a period of time after finding the back of the net.

According to The Athletic's Ornstein, Liverpool are fearful that striker Isak has suffered a 'significant' leg injury following their win over Tottenham on Saturday. The Reds are waiting for scan results following the incident, but there is a concern at the extent of the damage to his lower leg.

Ornstein also reported that with Mohamed Salah jetting off to the African Cup of Nations, this period was earmarked as a time when Isak was able to get a run in the side, along with Hugo Ekitike. Arne Slot will have to manage Ekitike carefully, with limited options in attack with Isak on the treatment table.

It's been claimed by journalist Mike Keegan that Liverpool have ruled out the possibility of it being ACL damage for Isak, but it appears to be a significant injury nonetheless.
