Liverpool fear Alexander Isak suffered 'significant' leg injury against Tottenham

Liverpool fear that Alexander Isak has suffered a 'significant' leg injury.

The British transfer record was injured while scoring in the 56th minute against Tottenham in the Premier League clash on Saturday.

Isak was brought down awkwardly by a sliding challenge from Micky van de Ven and was unable to celebrate. The Swede received treatment and was helped off the pitch by two members of Liverpool's medical staff.

Isak is yet to undergo an MRI scan which will reveal the full extent of the injury. But Liverpool are reportedly concerned about the severity of the damage to the forward's leg.

The 26-year-old broke the deadlock against 10-man Spurs after Arne Slot brought him off the bench at half-time. Hugo Ekitike scored the Reds' winning goal in the 2-1 win that saw Tottenham reduced to nine-men in added time when Cristian Romero saw red.

Isak has endured a painfully slow start to life at Anfield following his £125million move from Newcastle.

Fitness issues and a lack of form have seen him start just six of Liverpool's 14 Premier League matches since he joined on deadline day.

The Swede has just three goals in 16 games for the Reds, with the latest injury blow only adding to his miserable start to his Liverpool career.

“I haven’t spoken to him about it yet but it’s a good thing he scored, a good goal assisted by Florian Wirtz,” Slot said. “I said players are getting better, the team is getting better.

“It wasn’t perfect today, especially the last 10 minutes but we pick up points and are developing in a way I want to see.

“That’s what we’d like to see happening a lot. A good finish, a good pass. Let’s not be too negative yet. We don’t know yet, let’s hope he is back with us soon.”
