Declan Rice talks up big reunion and it will fill West Ham with the deepest regret

Declan Rice has taken to social media talking up a big reunion and it will fill West Ham with the deepest regret with the club staring relegation in the face.

Make no bones about it, West Ham are now in very real danger of being relegated from the Premier League.

No wins in six games – in which West Ham dropped seven points from winning positions – have left the club stuck in the bottom three.

Should Forest draw with or beat Fulham, then West Ham will effectively be seven points adrift of safety due to their inferior goal difference.

It is going to take some turnaround from here for Nuno Espirito Santo to keep the Hammers up.

West Ham now staring relegation in the face

The situation is a culmination of two years of regression in east London which has seen the club win just 19 of their 74 Premier League games since January 2024.

The malaise set in under David Moyes but it has since been revealed West Ham’s players lost their way after they found out his new contract had been withdrawn by the club’s board.

What are the chances that anyone goes for a BIGGER fee than Declan Rice? 💸

And how much would you demand for Jarrod Bowen?

The appointment of Julen Lopetegui and having Tim Steidten in control of transfers proved disastrous, Graham Potter somehow made things even worse.

Now it is up to Nuno to prove he can be the man to get West Ham back to the kind of levels Moyes had them competing at.

Key to Moyes’ success was the emergence – and his handling of – the generational talent that is Declan Rice.

After he and Moyes helped West Ham to their record ever Premier League points total, a first major trophy since 1980 and secured three consecutive seasons in Europe, Rice was sold for £105m.

Arsenal fans have goaded West Ham ever since by nicknaming the midfielder ‘Half Price Rice’ because they believe he is worth much more than they paid.

It looked like Moyes had done a decent enough job of replacing Rice when he signed James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez and they both started well in east London.

But the harsh reality is that neither were fit to lace Rice’s boots and West Ham completely failed to replace the dynamism and energy the former captain brought to the team.

That was until the arrivals of Soungoutou Magassa and Mateus Fernandes this summer.

However, it looks like it could prove to be too little too late unless there is a huge turnaround for the Hammers.

Keys is once again talking nonsense about West Ham and Moyes…

West Ham were warned to be careful what they wish for when parting company with Moyes.

That saying has been like nails on a chalkboard for Hammers fans.

Especially as it has been given more credence by what has gone on since the Scot left.

Moyes has since said the time was right for all parties when he left.

But there is no doubt he would have signed that new deal had the terms been to his liking.

Moyes was not happy his power of veto on all transfers was being removed or that his son David Junior was being demoted from the club’s recruitment team.

As West Ham’s miserable campaign continues and relegation looks a real possibility, the club needs some heroes to step up.

West Ham survived from a similar position when Moyes first returned at the turn of the year in 2020.

Now Rice has talked up a big reunion and it will fill West Ham with the deepest regret.

Arsenal played Everton on Saturday night, with the Gunners winning 1-0 to return to the top of the Premier League.

Rice was immense in the game and arguably man of the match.

On the visit to the Hill Dickinson, Rice was reunited with his former West Ham boss Moyes.

And Rice took to Instagram to share his love for his old boss.

West Ham will find it hard to look at Rice post with Moyes

Rice posed for a picture with Moyes and posted it on his Instagram with the caption: “Forever grateful to this man” followed by a heart.

Given the current situation at West Ham, the image is hard to look at.

Hammers fans in the reactions have noted it has been ‘all downhill’ since the pair left the club.

It was arguably West Ham’s failure to adequately replace Rice that has set the club back more than the departure of Moyes.

Clearly if Rice was still around, the Hammers would not be in this predicament.

Many would argue the same about Moyes.

Those ships have long since sailed, though, and while West Ham’s board will look at the image with regret, they must make sure the departures of the duo don’t ultimately lead to the unmitigated disaster of demotion to the Championship.
