Liverpool have the chance to bring in some new faces when the January transfer window opens up for business
Liverpool delved into the market in the summer to bring in the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, among others, to bolster their squad. They have the chance to make some more signings in the January transfer window. The Reds also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well this winter.
The Merseyside outfit won 2-1 away at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday night. Isak and Ekitike got their goals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Arne Slot’s side are back in action on 27th December against struggling Wolves.
Liverpool transfer boost in pursuit of Antoine Semenyo
According to The Guardian, AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo prefers a move to Liverpool over Manchester United and Manchester City. The Cherries face a battle to keep hold of the attacker ahead of next month amid attention from elsewhere. He is under contract in Dorset until June 2030 but has a release clause of £65million.
Semenyo, 25, is a Ghana international with 32 caps under his belt. He joined his current club back in 2023 and has since become one of their most prized assets. The forward has scored 29 goals in 105 appearances in all competitions, seven of which have come this season.
He rose up through the academy at Bristol City and was a regular for the Robins at various different youth levels before going to break into their first-team. The London-born man was also loaned out away from Ashton Gate to Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland to get some experience. Liverpool could see him as someone to boost their attacking department ahead of the second half of the campaign.
What is Antoine Semenyo’s situation at Bournemouth amid Liverpool links?
Bournemouth will be praying that they will be able to retain the services of Semenyo until the summer at least. However, their hands may well be tied, especially if his release clause is matched. If he joined Liverpool, he would give Slot another option to pick from at the top end of the pitch and offer something different.
After penning his extension at Bournemouth earlier this year, he said: "I've grown so much at the club, both on and off the pitch, and I'm really happy to have signed ahead of returning for pre-season. From the fans to the staff and my teammates, I can't speak highly enough of the people around the club. It's a great place to be and I'm excited to get back to Bournemouth and continue the hard work with the new season just around the corner."
Meanwhile, the Cherries’ President of Football Operations Tiago Pinto added: "Antoine has been crucial to the club's progress and is a key member of the project here at Vitality Stadium. We have a great relationship with Antoine and we're looking forward to continuing that as we hope to build on a record-breaking season. His commitment to the club matches our ambition and I'm excited to see what can be achieved as we prepare for the new campaign."
