Latest news and rumours from around the Premier League including updates on Arsenal, Manchester United, Sunderland and Brighton.
Arsenal and Manchester United are ‘interested’ in a move for Atalanta defender Marco Palestra, who is currently on loan at Cagliari, according to CaughtOffside. The report suggests his price tag is around the £35million mark. Chelsea, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Bayern Munich have also been mentioned as suitors.
Palestra, 21, is an Italy youth international and was given the green light to leave his parent club on a temporary basis in the summer. He was allowed to depart to get some more experience under his belt and boost his development. The right-back has since become a key player at Unipol Domus but his future is up in the air ahead of the January transfer window amid attention from elsewhere.
The 3am Verdict: Marco Palestra is still young and has potential to get better down the line. Arsenal and Manchester United could both see him as someone to boost their defensive department. It is unlikely that he would walk straight into either of their starting XI’s immediately though and he would be more of a long-term addition.
Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil wanted
Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil is wanted by Leicester City and West Brom, as per journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page. The 24-year-old has seen his game time at the Stadium of Light dry up since the Black Cats’ promotion to the Premier League. Therefore, he may well move on this winter.
Neil has been on the books of the North East club for his whole career to date and rose up through their academy ranks. He was a regular at various different youth levels before breaking into the first-team. The South Shields-born man has since made 199 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with 12 goals.
The 3m Verdict: Dan Neil needs to leave Sunderland in January to get some more minutes somewhere else. The Black Cats can’t offer him regular game time anymore and an exit would do him good. Leicester City and West Brom have both underperformed in the Championship this season but he would get into both of their starting XI’s.
Brighton and Hove Albion eye Robin Risser deal
Reporter Nixon has also claimed on his Patreon that Brighton and Hove Albion are keen on Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser. The stopper has emerged on the Seagulls’ radar after catching the eye in Ligue 1 over recent times. They could see him as a replacement for Bart Verbruggen, who is wanted elsewhere.
Risser only made the switch to Stade Bollaert-Delelis in the summer. The 21-year-old was previously at Strasbourg and was shipped out on loan to Dijon and Red Star. He is under contract until 2030 at Lens so they are under no immediate pressure to cash in on him yet.
The 3am Verdict: Brighton’s recruitment is usually spot on and they could see Robin Risser as someone to step into Bart Verbruggen’s shoes. At the age of 21, he is still young but appears to be an exciting talent. It would be a blow for Lens to lose him, especially after only a few months.
