The 15-year-old jewel in the club’s academy was touted with the Catalan giants ahead of the weekend.
Attacker [Tavares](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/37664513/barcelona-norwich-england-ajay-tavares-transfer/?ref=ed_direct) could depart the Canaries when he turns 16 later this month, although City officials have had no contact from Barca.
Norwich would be due a compensation package for the teenager, who was part of the club’s pre-season tour and featured in the friendly against [FC Volendam](https://www.pinkun.com/sport/matchreports/25326128.fc-volendam-1-1-norwich-city-pre-season-match-report/?ref=ed_direct) under previous head coach Liam Manning.
Clement believes Tavares is in the best place to progress his career, and revealed he has already put a plan in place to help fast-track the club’s next generation of talent.
“I know him, of course, and it is maybe something we didn't discuss yet, but Ryan (Garry), my assistant, will be the bridge towards the academy. It's a very important role,” he said. “I always give this responsibility to somebody in the staff. I did that role also before in Bruges so I know how important it is, so I get to know the talents also much faster.
“A lot of young players are now training regularly with the first team. Ajay is also a very interesting one on that list, and I know also that he played in the training camp in the summer with the first team, and he did good stuff there. He's very young. He's still very young.
“But of course, we want to keep our best talents, because that's also one of the important things for the future and the things we discussed with the owners that they want also players out of our academy to grow and to go in the first team.
“Norwich has a good reputation about that, maybe less recently. And it's also something I love to do, and I've always been engaged with in all my clubs. So of course, we want to keep Ajay.”
City can only sign players to professional deals when they turn 17, with another attacking prospect Elliot Myles agreeing his first contract on his 17th birthday in January 2024.
Reports in Spain suggest Tavares could join Barcelona’s under-19 set-up before moving up to Barcelona B ahead of a future loan move. It is a similar path to the one Aston Villa’s Louie Barry followed when he left West Brom in 2019 before returning to England the following year.
