Promising 14-goal Chelsea youngster ready to take next step with January loan away

Chelsea’s return to the Champions League has actually had somewhat of a negative effect on some of the academy players looking to make their name at Cobham.

The Blues have needed points in every game possible after their opening day defeat to Bayern Munich, and have therefore required their best players for the majority of European outings.

Last year, the fact they were in the Conference League allowed a number of their promising youngsters the chance to compete on the big stage.

Shumaira Mheuka open to January loan move away from Chelsea

Shumaira Mheuka even started in the Round of 16 against Copenhagen, and in total made four appearances, including 45 minutes in the semi-finals.

Despite being young, the striker has already developed significant leadership qualities, seeing Mheuka already compared to Reece James by the club.

Another strong season with the academy has left Mheuka believing he is ready to take the next step, and according to BBC Sport, he is open to a loan move in January to give him much-needed first team experience.

There will no doubt be some at the club who would love for him to make a move to Strasbourg when Emanuel Emegha makes his own move to Stamford Bridge.

Mheuka enjoying fine season at Chelsea

Mheuka already has 14 goals to his name this season for Chelsea’s youth sides, leaving him the top scorer at the club at all levels.

He has carried this form with him onto the international stage too. 11 goals in 2025 has made Mheuka a standout for the England U19s, outshining Arsenal prodigy Max Dowman.

Despite this, there have been no first team opportunities present themself to the 19-year-old, leaving him keen on a move elsewhere to get his chance.

There is competition for the number nine role at Stamford Bridge, however the likes of Liam Delap are yet to really make the position their own.
