Liverpool are drawing up plans to sign a new forward in January after a serious injury to Alexander Isak, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
The Sweden international went down in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and is expected to be unavailable for a significant period with a suspected broken leg.
While Liverpool await scan results to uncover the full extent of the setback, they are also starting to look at potential market opportunities ahead of the transfer window reopening next month.
While their long-standing target Antoine Semenyo is also being pursued by Manchester United and Manchester City, Liverpool are believed to be exploring alternatives, with calls already being made regarding their next signing.

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Liverpool have made calls for several players in December to understand potential market opportunities ahead of the transfer window.
The Italian journalist also suggested there is a chance of a new arrival at Anfield next month, with Arne Slot looking to bolster his squad following a difficult first part of the season:
“My information is that Liverpool have made some calls in terms of opportunities, like in November I told you about Semenyo.
“Then, already now in this month, in December, they started calling also for other players to understand some potential opportunities.
“So I would keep the door open for Liverpool movements in the January transfer window.
“We will try to understand the positions. Injuries and recovery time will also help to understand what Liverpool will decide to do.
“But I think there is a chance we’ll have a Liverpool here we go in the January transfer window.”
Liverpool spent in the region of £450m on new players during the summer transfer window, welcoming the likes of Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and others.
The Reds have several injury issues heading into the New Year, with Wataru Endo, Cody Gakpo, Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni all missing the 2-1 win at Tottenham, while Conor Bradley was forced off with a setback.
Mohamed Salah was also absent as he is away with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Front-Runners for Semenyo Named
Antoine Semenyo
As GIVEMESPORT revealed on Saturday, both Manchester City and Manchester United are currently the two front-runners to land Semenyo in the January transfer window.
While Liverpool have made enquiries, the Reds are not as active in the pursuit as the two Manchester clubs, although the situation could still change with over a week left until the market reopens.
Semenyo is expected to leave Bournemouth next month and is available via a £65m release clause valid for the first part of January.
The 25-year-old winger has been in exceptional form this season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 16 league appearances.
