With the January transfer window just days away, Liverpool find themselves in a familiar position: linked with plenty of incomings, but facing questions over potential departures. Fabrizio Romano has hinted that the Reds could be active in the winter, suggesting the club have made “exploratory calls” to assess market opportunities and that there is a “real possibility” of a January signing.

However, recent updates from David Ornstein suggest Liverpool may have fallen behind in the race for Antoine Semenyo, with Manchester United and Manchester City now emerging as the “leading contenders” for the Bournemouth winger’s £65 million signature.

While the incomings remain uncertain, one potential exit has resurfaced. AC Milan are reportedly preparing to reignite their pursuit of Joe Gomez, a move that nearly materialized in the final hours of the summer transfer window. Italian publication Milan News reports that the Rossoneri remain eager to bring the versatile defender to San Siro, with sporting director Igli Tare compiling a shortlist of defensive targets that includes both Chelsea’s Axel Disasi and Liverpool’s Gomez.

It is claimed that the Liverpool defender is “seriously considering ” the advances of Milan.

Gomez, 28, has endured a frustrating campaign in terms of playing time, managing just 509 minutes across 12 appearances in all competitions. Despite being Liverpool’s longest-serving player with over a decade at the club, the England international has constantly struggled with injuries that has made it hard for him to nail-down a starting berth.

Milan’s interest in Gomez dates back to last summer, when they came close to agreeing a €15 million deal before Liverpool’s pursuit of Marc Guehi collapsed on deadline day. The Serie A side view the versatile defender as an ideal fit for Massimiliano Allegri’s system, where his ability to play both centrally and as a wing-back in a back three would provide valuable tactical flexibility.
