Steven Gerrard makes‘brutally honest’ claim about replacing Arne Slot at Liverpool

Steven Gerrard has made his feelings clear about replacing Arne Slot at Liverpool in a recent interview.

Gerrard refused to rule out a return to the Merseyside giants, expressing his willingness to help his former club in any role anytime.

But he also gave his firm backing to Slot, insisting he doesn’t want the Dutchman to lose his job at Anfield.

On the latest episode of Ally’s Social Club for TNT Sports, Gerrard said: “I’ll be brutally, brutally honest with you – I’d help Liverpool in any department at any minute of every day. I’d help them with anything.

“I don’t want the Liverpool manager to lose his job. I want Arne Slot to fix this and turn it around and make Liverpool great. I was bouncing all over the city [a few] months ago when Liverpool won the league.

“I’m a Liverpool fan. I want the best for Liverpool, but if Liverpool need me in any department at any time, I’ll be there for them.”

There was plenty of speculation regarding Slot’s future at Liverpool after a run of nine defeats in 12 matches during the autumn.

But he has since managed to turn things around at Anfield, with the Reds collecting 11 points from their previous five Premier League matches to climb to fifth in the standings.

Given the revival in their fortunes, Slot’s position at the club looks safe for now.

Gerrard is widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players, winning the 2005 Champions League with them.

But he hasn’t been greatly successful as a manager, despite winning the Scottish Premiership title with Rangers in his first role.

The 45-year-old was appointed as Aston Villa’s boss in November 2021, but he was dismissed after less than a year following a 32.5 win percentage.

He also failed to achieve anything significant in his next job at Al-Ettifaq, and left the Saudi Arabian club by mutual consent in January.

Gerrard was heavily linked with a return to Rangers following Russell Martin’s departure in October, but he turned down the opportunity.
