Patrick Berger reports that Chelsea centre-back Aarón Anselmino may be headed back to London early. Chelsea have the ability to recall the young Argentine from his Bundesliga club due to a previously unknown clause in his loan contract. Anselmino, per Berger, has not reached a minimum-minute-threshold stipulated by the contract. Chelsea thus possess automatic recall rights.
Injuries both at the front end and back end of Anselmino’s BVB loan stint have limited the 20-year-old to just 564 minutes of action. Some solid performances whilst in Dortmund dress have still seen Anselmino’s estimated market value rise from €8m to €12m in the latest Transfermarkt update. Chelsea paid Boca Juniors €16.5m to acquire the rights to Anselmino in August of 2024.
Might Anselmino transfer to Dortmund permanently?
There is no purchase clause in the youngster’s loan contract. Recent reports also suggest that – despite strong interest from Dortmund – Chelsea are absolutely not interested in selling their highly touted prospect. In principle, Chelsea could look to nip interest from both the player and the Bundesliga club over a permanent stay by executing their recall rights.
Whether the Premier League outfit would execute such a move (which may risk alienating Anselmino himself) remains to be seen. Chelsea may still wish to protect their interests. Another young Argentine prospect from a Premier League club loaned out to the Bundesliga – Manchester City’s Claudio Echeverri (Leverkusen) has already been recalled early.
