Liverpool could have a gentleman's agreement with Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi ahead of the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.
Guehi almost completed a move to Anfield during the summer transfer window, with a deal falling through on the final day. The Eagles pulled the plug after they failed to bring in a replacement, but with Guehi's contract expiring next summer, he looks almost certain to be heading through the exit door at Selhurst Park.
It's unclear where Guehi could be heading, as he's able to speak to clubs around Europe in January ahead of a free transfer move in the summer. Premier League clubs are unable to complete pre-contract agreements with players playing in the same country, potentially giving other sides an advantage in January.
Liverpool Want a Centre-Back in 2026
marc guehi
According to Sky Sports journalist Solhekol, Liverpool want to bring in a centre-back in 2026. The respected reporter claims that he's heard that Liverpool have a gentleman's agreement with Crystal Palace defender Guehi after his move to the Reds collapsed during the summer window...
"I think before Isak's injury, the main priority for Liverpool this January was strengthening at the back. We know they're definitely going to sign a new centre-back in 2026.
"Now, could it be Marc Guehi? I've heard talk that he may have a gentleman's agreement with Liverpool, that he will sign for Liverpool. Of course, he almost signed for them until the deal collapsed on deadline day in the summer."
Solhekol also mention that Guehi can speak to foreign clubs in January, with Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Real Madrid all interested in signing the centre-back.
Centre-Back Has to be Priority in January
Ibrahima Konate in action for Liverpool
Due to the performances of Ibrahima Konate, and the fact that he's out of contract next summer, Liverpool's priority has to be to bring in a new central defender in the January transfer window. Alexander Isak's recent injury might have altered their plans slightly, with the Swedish striker likely on the treatment table for an extended period, but a new centre-back needs to be brought in regardless.
Liverpool might be reluctant to sign Guehi in January due to the fact that they will have to pay a fee, rather than wait until the summer and get him for nothing, but it might be worth them getting a deal over the line as soon as possible.
