The January transfer window is poised to swing wide open, with Liverpool linked to a number of potential moves following a mixed start to the season. The Reds have struggled for consistency under Arne Slot and currently sit fifth in the Premier League, 10 points behind leaders Arsenal, with their hopes of defending the title fading by the week.
While the Dutchman has overseen an upturn in form recently -Liverpool are unbeaten in their last five matches – clear weaknesses remain within his starting XI. As a result, the club’s hierarchy may look to strengthen when the transfer window reopens next month, despite significant summer investment in the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Alexander Isak.
Antoine Semenyo continues to be linked with a move to Anfield after impressing for Bournemouth this season, while Harvey Elliott could be recalled early from his loan spell at Aston Villa. Elsewhere, Mohamed Salah’s future remains uncertain following his comments in the aftermath of Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United earlier this month.
Semenyo has a £65million release clause in his contract with Bournemouth, which he signed over the summer. The clause can be activated during the early weeks of the upcoming transfer window but expires in mid-January. Several top clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United, have all been linked with the forward, and it remains unclear where his future lies. Liverpool’s interest in Semenyo could intensify following the injury sustained by Alexander Isak during the weekend’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Sky Sports News, Antoine Semenyo could make a decision on his future as early as today, with the situation described as finely balanced. Manchester United and Manchester City are currently leading the race and remain neck-and-neck for the forward’s signature. However, Liverpool are still interested and are understood to be weighing up their options in the aftermath of Alexander Isak’s injury. Tottenham Hotspur previously submitted a bid for Semenyo during the summer transfer window but are now believed to have shifted their focus to other targets.
