Leo Castledine's red-hot form on loan at Huddersfield Town could lead to a Championship move in the January transfer window as second-tier clubs line up for the young Chelsea midfielder.

Castledine, 20, has been a huge hit on loan with the Terriers after deciding to join Lee Grant's team back in the summer. The England Under-19 international had attracted Championship interest back then but made the call to link up with a team who were widely considered to be one of the favourites to win promotion from League One.

The attacking midfielder has lit up the third-tier with seven goals in 19 games - making him Huddersfield's top scorer - and has caught the eye with some stunning strikes, including a fine free-kick against Luton Town last month which landed him the League One Goal of the Month award for November.

His form has not gone unnoticed higher up the pyramid and there is now scope for a permanent move to happen in the January transfer window with several Championship clubs keen on the former AFC Wimbledon youngster.

Castledine's contract at Stamford Bridge still has around 18 months left to run. However, it's understood Chelsea are open to facilitating a generous deal in the New Year on the basis that they would stand to profit from any future move the talented youngster may go on to make.

Castledine made it five goals in six games at the weekend as Huddersfield beat Rotherham 3-1 to climb up to seventh in the League One standings.

The Terriers would be loathe to lose Castledine, who has quickly established himself as one of the team's most important players under Grant, who is in his first senior head coach role.
