The Kenyan vet has taken the sport to an entire new continent with his exploits at Ally Pally and now he hopes for adoration at Stamford Bridge

David Munyua reckons the whole of Africa is celebrating him as he prepares for an audience at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea.
The Kenyan star’s fairytale adventure at the [Ally Pally](https:// https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/darts) was ended in ruthless by Dutch ace Kevin Doets.
But Munyua’s story at the World Championship has just started as he has taken the game into his continent and sparked a fresh wave of interest.
The vet got messages from his president William Samoei Ruto and ambassador Dr Joseph Warui from the Kenyan High Commission was in the crowd for the clash against Doets.
Munyua hopes he’s started a wave of African strength in darts and said: “Winning the first round was phenomenal for me. Now everybody in my country is aware of darts. They know what’s going on.
“I’m happy I can bring the sport to Africa. If Munyua is doing it, then why not them?
“If this is what we can do in Kenya, we can do it in different countries. It would be amazing. Cameroon, Nigeria, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Somalia, we have so many countries.
“There’s nothing that can unite Africa better than sport. Sport is the only activity that can join us. Everybody is celebrating David Munyua in Africa.
“We have various parties planned for when I get home. The government and president, other players and my family members.”
Munyua is staying in London for the Christmas period and has been given the opportunity to attend the match of beloved Chelsea against Aston Villa on Saturday.
The 30-year-old was a big fan of Didier Drogba back in the day and now believes the Blues fans will give him an ovation as they did their former striking hero.
Munyua said: “I hope everybody is waiting to see me at Stamford Bridge. I’ve obviously never seen Chelsea live because I’ve never been out of my Africa before. At Stamford Bridge I think it will be easy game for us.”

It’s not just in Africa where he was adored as, following his first-round win over Mike De Decker, the Ally Pally again got behind him against Doets.
He was called The People’s Champion and said: “This is my first time here and it’s nice to be called that. I wish that I get a chance to be at the Ally Pally again and participate even better. Kevin is a good player. Nobody expect a match from me. The supporters were amazing.”

Doets was gracious in victory and said: “I didn’t meet David before this game, but I saw him backstage before the game and he was very talkative. Just a very nice guy and I told him I respect what you have done for your country. It’s the first time someone from Kenya goes this far and it is a sensation, a phenomenom.”
