Whether LeBron James will play in golf’s Internet Invitational in 2026

NBA superstar LeBron James is the latest big celebrity name to get into golf and his newfound hobby has got people excited.

Like so many in other sports, James has taken to picking up the golf clubs and getting himself out on the course.

‘King James’ is nearing the end of a quite superb basketball career and he seems to be putting in place something for him to keep busy with after retirement.

Golf, of course, is loved by a number of NBA stars, with the likes of Stephen Curry and former guard JR Smith keen and excellent golfers.

Nowadays, with so much focus on celebrity culture in golf and YouTube channels galore, we get to see more than ever just how good these celebs are.

And with The Internet Invitational a roaring success this year, could we now see Lebron actually get involved?

Dave Portnoy says whether LeBron James could play in The Internet Invitational

Portnoy is a polarising figure in American sport’s media but there is no question he has brought eyes to the game.

The Internet Invitational was a big success and after hanging out at the big Jake Paul v Anthony Joshua fight this past weekend, Portnoy admitted he bumped into Rory McIlroy, who was eager to find out about James’ golf.

“I met Rory McIlroy, sitting two doors down, Rory McIlroy asked me with a straight face ‘Is LeBron playing in the Invitational?’, Portnoy revealed.

“I’m like I don’t know. Maybe. I just don’t know. He’s been talking an awful lot about YouTube golf. I’d love to invite him, love to get him there.”

Lebron James could be a big blessing for golf

We’ve already seen Michael Jordan take to golf over the years and he often pops up at different events and pro-ams.

For the PGA Tour to have someone like LeBron James take up the game and then start to really take things seriously would be big news.

James is a global megastar and much like Tiger Woods is to golf, has been the face of the NBA for two decades now.

Should he keep it going, then the PGA Tour will gobble up all the LeBron they can get.

And ultimately, that will prove a good thing for golf and bring yet more eyeballs, and players, to the game.
