Why Zion continues to come off the bench for Pelicans? James Borrego explains

Zion Williamson has been a reserve over the last four games since his groin injury return, and the Pelicans immediately went winning.

Zion Williamson has been an unlikely sixth-man enforcer for the New Orleans Pelicans recently.

Since his returned for the Pels after suffering from a groin injury, he was placed off the bench and operated as the leader of the team's second unit.

But compellingly, Williamson's impact as a reserve has been massive, as New Orleans won the last four games that he wasn't a starter.

In Monday's 119-113 win over the Dallas Mavericks, Williamson's output of 23 points and nine boards helped the Pels secure their longest win streak in two years.

The franchise star has averaged 20.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 56.9 percent shooting across 24.2 minutes on this current five-game win streak, which allowed New Orleans to go above the depths of the Western Conference.

In his presser following the Pelicans' victory over the Mavericks, James Borrego addressed the ongoing positive trend for Williamson as part of the bench units.

Williamson's unselfishness definitely paved the way for the Pelicans to build positive momentum. And for as long as they are on the win column, it seems that the big man won't mind continuously coming off the bench.

Zion and the Pels will look to maintain their winning ways on Tuesday, facing the Cavaliers in Cleveland.
