‘Fantasy to forget’ – Manchester City put foot down, player won’t leave in January

Manchester City’s Abdukodir Khusanov has been linked with RC Lens and Liverpool in the winter market.

These claims were from the Uzbek media, where it was even suggested Liverpool could offer €50m for the centre-back. Allez Lens, a website dedicating its coverage to Lens, give their take on the Manchester City player’s future.

The Uzbek international spent 18 months with the Ligue 1 side and left them to join the Citizens in January.

Khusanov featured four times in the first five league matches this season. He then picked up an ankle injury in September and was sidelined until last month. Pep Guardiola left him on the bench before handing him minutes against West Ham United at the weekend.

This led to rumours of a potential move in the next window. Lens and Liverpool were both pushed forward as options, with the former said to have contacted Manchester City.

Allez Lens, who say it’s their own information, waste no time in dismissing these links.

They state the French club never considered bringing Khusanov back to the club because they aren’t looking for a top-class defender to replace Jonathan Gradit, who is currently injured.

In addition to this, Manchester City have already made their position clear. It’s claimed the Premier League side have sent a ‘clear message’ that Khusanov won’t be allowed to leave, either on loan or a permanent transfer, in January.

Therefore, Allez Lens say the 21-year-old is a ‘fantasy to forget’.
