Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi will be available as a free agent in January having agreed to terminate his contract with AC Milan. News of the Anfield cult hero's movement comes mere hours after the Reds confirmed a devastating injury blow to No.9 Alexander Isak.

On Monday night, Liverpool confirmed the details of Isak's injury suffered as he opened to scoring in Saturday's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur. The result of a challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven was a leg fracture, for which the striker has undergone surgery and faces several months on the sidelines.

It leaves the Reds lighter in attack, however with the January transfer window active in just nine days' time, Arne Slot may look to rectify that. Speaking about Isak's injury on Tuesday, the Liverpool manager said: "It's going to be a long injury. A couple of months. That's a big, big big disappointment for him and also for us."

Multiple outlets including Sky Sport Italia are reporting that Origi has signed his contract termination agreement with Milan. The 30-year-old is set to become available at no cost at all this winter whilst ending a period of torment in his career.

The Belgian forward moved to San Siro after his contract with Liverpool finished in 2022. It was a move that never worked out as he has only made 36 appearances, scoring twice in that time.

He has been frozen out of the squad since December 2024 following a lacklustre loan spell with Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest, therefore a resolution has been in the works for some time. But before his Italian woes began, Origi etched his name into Anfield folklore with several memorable goals in the Jurgen Klopp era.

First was a 96th-minute Merseyside derby winner in 2018. In a bizarre period of play, Virgil van Dijk thrashed a half-volley onto Everton's crossbar, the ball bounced twice and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford failed to clear, allowing Origi a free header on the goal-line.

Then came the striker's contributions in the Reds' run to their sixth Champions League crown in 2019. He was the scorer of two goals, including Liverpool's famous "corner taken quickly" strike to seal a 4-3 aggregate comeback win over Barcelona at Anfield in the semi-finals, before scoring the goal that sealed victory in the Madrid final against Tottenham.

It remains to be seen what action Liverpool decide to take in the upcoming transfer window in the wake of Isak's injury blow. Slot was asked what his plans were, though responded: "My only thoughts are on the upcoming two games. It's a time for our players and fans to roll their sleeves up to help us in the best possible way."
