Liverpool have been tipped to move for a new forward after Alexander Isak’s injury against Tottenham.

The Reds secured a 2–1 Premier League win in north London on Saturday, but the result was overshadowed by Isak being forced off injured. The Swedish striker was caught by a late sliding challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven as he scored Liverpool’s opening goal.

Liverpool have steadied after a poor run and are now unbeaten in their last five league games, with back-to-back wins after the victory over Spurs. However, the mood quickly shifted when Isak went down in pain moments after scoring.

Liverpool’s record signing received treatment on the pitch before limping off. The club later confirmed he underwent surgery on Monday for an ankle injury that included a fractured fibula. No timeline has been given for his return, but it’s thought he will be out for at least a few months..

Isak, who joined Liverpool this summer for a reported £130m, had already been managing fitness issues before the Spurs clash. Speaking on TalkSport, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor said he fears the 26-year-old may not play again this season.

“I don’t think Isak plays again this season,” Agbonlahor said. “I’ve seen that injury before, where the leg gets tangled. That’s a broken leg.

“That’s a long time out, and you don’t always come back the same.”

Agbonlahor then suggested Liverpool could enter the race for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo in January to cover for Isak’s absence.

He added: “I think now Liverpool might join the race for Antoine Semenyo - there’s talk about Man United and Man City.

“I don’t know why he’d go to Manchester United. If I’m him, I’m saying, ‘Why even message me?’”
