Enzo Fernandez thinks one Chelsea player has now become the best in the world

Enzo Fernandez will be extremely satisfied with life at Chelsea right now, especially after last season.

Chelsea and Fernandez were able to win two major trophies and finish fourth in the Premier League.

The midfielder is surrounded by talent, playing alongside the likes of Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer.

Fernandez has been linked to Real Madrid, but considering all of the above, it is unlikely that the 24-year-old will be in a hurry to leave Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Fernandez claims Moises Caicedo is the best defensive midfielder in the world

On The Residency, an app where football supporters are able to interact with players, Fernandez was asked whether Caicedo is now the best No.6 in the world.

In response, the Argentine simply said: “Sí (yes)”. Caicedo is certainly in the conversation, and the numbers support his case.

As per FBref, Caicedo is making 2.98 tackles and 1.58 interceptions per 90 minutes, putting him in the 92nd and 94th percentiles for those areas among midfielders.

What does Moises Caicedo need to do to enter the Kante conversation?

Or is it a bridge too far?

While Caicedo may very well be the best holding midfielder in football right now, Jamie Carragher could still not find room for him in his Premier League Team of the Season so far.

Carragher issued an apology to Chelsea fans after snubbing the Ecuador international but explained his decision.

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have great relationship

It is no surprise that Fernandez views Caicedo as the best defensive midfielder in the world. The South American duo share a very good relationship.

When Fernandez spoke about Caicedo in more detail last month, he said: “We know how important he is, and also the humility that he has. A person who always wants to learn, always wants to help you. The connection is very good.”

This season, Fernandez has played further forward at times, largely because of Palmer’s injury problems.

However, the Argentina international and Caicedo make up a great midfield partnership. Going forward, you would expect Enzo Maresca to continue utilising that combo when Chelsea take on the lesser sides in the Premier League.

That obviously does not include upcoming opponents Aston Villa, who are one of the top teams in England right now.
