Chelsea change their mind and enter race to sign £65m Premier League star in January

Chelsea were not expected to be too busy in the January transfer window, however have always been tipped to get involved in opportunistic chances.

Todd Boehly and co have made it their mantra to bring in players who become available at the right price, with them showing this with the addition of Alejandro Garnacho.

The left-winger was highly-rated just a few months before his move away from Manchester United, but a very public falling out with Ruben Amorim saw his stock plummet, and Chelsea capitalise on the situation.

Chelsea make enquiry for Semenyo

This is why the signing of a new attacker could never be fully ruled out, and the biggest name who could be on the move in January is Antoine Semenyo.

The Bournemouth winger has a £65m release clause available in January, and has attracted interest from a number of top clubs.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Chelsea have changed their mind and actually considered making an approach for Semenyo in January.

He said: “Chelsea have always downplayed entering the race for Antoine Semenyo, but told they have actually considered an approach in the last few days. Manchester clubs viewed as frontrunners.”

Semenyo has enjoyed an electric 2025/26 campaign so far. He currently sits on eight goals and three assists in the Premier League.

While some of the Blues’ options have underwhelmed, the future is still very bright for Chelsea out wide with Estevao Willian and Geovany Quenda set to be stars for a number of years.

Despite Semenyo’s brilliance, it is difficult to see how things would work out in the long run, although that hasn’t stopped the Blues from investing before.
