Draymond Green explains why he left the bench after heated dispute with head coach

Golden State Warriors star [Draymond Green](https://www.nj.com/sports/2025/11/warriors-star-explains-why-he-lost-his-cool-when-fan-called-him-angel-reese.html) left the bench after a heated argument with head coach Steve Kerr during a timeout in the third quarter of Monday’s game against the Orlando Magic.

Green later returned to sit on the bench for the remainder of the game, which ended with the Warriors winning 120-97 to bring them back to .500 (15-15).

“Tempers spilled over,” Green told reporters. “I just thought it was best that I get out of there. I don’t think there was a situation where it was going to get better. So it was just best to remove myself...sh\*t happens. We move forward. We alright.”

He added:“Quite honestly, if everybody’s OK with being 15-15, whoop dee doo. Talk to me when they’re 41-41. Can’t be whoop dee doo when you’re 15-15, something’s gotta give.’

After Green was subbed out, the Warriors went on a 41-18 run. He did not play the final 20 minutes of the game.

“We got into it, obviously, ” Kerr told reporters.

“We had it out a little bit and he made his decision to go back to the locker room and cool off. And that’s all I’m gonna say about it, everything is private. I got nothing further.”

Asked if he would have gone back to Green in the game, Kerr added: “No, no, no he wasn’t going back in. He left, he went back to the locker room. We moved forward, the guys played great....Nothing more to discuss from my end.”

“We need Draymond,” Kerr added. “He’s a champion. We’ve been together for a long time. It’s unfortunate what happened, but it happened.”
