After being bought out by the Portland Trail Blazers, Ayton signed a two-year deal with the Lakers and has impressed with his play, averaging 15.3 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 71 percent. But it’s his community work that has earned him the NBA Bob Lanier Community Assist Award for November.

“Speechless, to be honest. It was an award I didn’t expect,” Ayton said per Lakers Nation. “I try to invest, to give back and contribute the best way I can in things me and my family care about, and I can just say thank you.”

“I’ve never been in a position like that to win an award like that, so we’re honored. We’re not gonna stop doing what we do, but I truly appreciate the community, especially the Lakers. Even being on this platform making it worldwide.”

Locally, his Ayton Alley-Oop program provides youth in Southern California access to live sports experiences, prioritizing underrepresented and economically disadvantaged communities.
