Chelsea could recall loanee in January

With the Premier League on the back burner until Boxing Day, attention is turning to the upcoming January transfer window.

All 20 sides are likely to be active in the market in the new year, with clubs at both ends of the standings given the chance to amend their squads ahead of the second half of the campaign.

One club that could be active in the January window is Chelsea, who have spent heavily since being taken over by BlueCo in 2022.

This summer was no different, with the likes of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Alejandro Garnacho all arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Now, with the January window around the corner, it appears that Chelsea are considering recalling one of their players from a successful loan spell.

As reported by Patrick Berger, via CaughtOffside, Chelsea have the option to recall defender Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell with German side Borussia Dortmund next month.

The Argentinian centre-back joined the Blues from Boca Juniors in 2024 but remained on loan at the Argentine side until the start of this year.

He made his debut – and to date his only appearance – for Chelsea at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States over the summer, but was then sent on loan to Dortmund for the remainder of the current campaign.

Anselmino has since made nine appearances for Dortmund and has been largely impressive, although he has also missed a number of matches due to injury.

It is claimed that Chelsea included a clause in the loan deal that would allow them to recall Anselmino in January, although it is currently unclear whether or not the west London outfit are planning to do so.

Maresca’s side have struggled with injuries in defence this term, with the likes of Wesley Fofana having missed matches and Levi Colwill having been ruled out for the majority of the campaign.
