Arteta loves him: Arsenal submit enquiry to sign "incredible" star with Spurs also "keen" -…

Arsenal have now submitted an enquiry to sign an "incredible" star in the January transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur also keen.

Gunners eyeing new forward amid Gyokeres criticism

Despite scoring the match-winning goal from the penalty spot against Everton last time out, Viktor Gyokeres has continued to receive criticism, with Gary Lineker saying: "Gyokeres has come in and I look at him, and he's you know, I don't want to be rude, but he's not in the same league as Erling Haaland. He was given the penalty yesterday wasn't he, to try and get him scoring after his recent injury."

In fairness, the Sweden international hasn't exactly been prolific since signing for the Gunners, netting five goals in 15 Premier League outings, which means Mikel Arteta will have a big decision to make when Kai Havertz returns to full fitness.

Havertz has made just one appearance this season, having suffered a knee injury, but the German is now back in training, alongside Gabriel Jesus, who has featured as a substitute in the last two Premier League games.

As such, Arteta has plenty of options at his disposal in attacking areas, heading into a busy period of fixtures, but the north Londoners have now set out to bring in another new forward.

That is according to reporter Graeme Bailey, who recently took to X to claim that Arsenal have now submitted an initial enquiry over a deal for AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, who is preparing to leave the Cherries at the beginning of January.

Manchester United and Manchester City are currently leading the race for Semenyo, having held "lengthy" talks, while there may also be competition from both Liverpool and Tottenham, who are "keen" on securing his signature.

A deal will be on the expensive side, however, given that the Ghanaian has a £65m release clause in his contract, which is only active for the first ten days of the January transfer window.

There's fierce competition for his signature...

"Incredible" Semenyo deserves move to top club

The 25-year-old has been nothing short of a revelation for Bournemouth this season, amassing eight goals and three assists in 16 Premier League outings, while he has also been praised by journalist Owuraku Ampofo, who described the forward as "incredible".

The Bournemouth star has certainly earned a move to a top club, but there are doubts over whether he would be a necessary signing for Arsenal this winter.

Having featured at centre-forward and on both wings throughout his career, the London-born attacker is clearly versatile, but Arteta already has plenty of options in forward areas, with Jesus and Havertz due to return from injury.

Not only that, but the Gunners signed Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze in the summer, with the latter making a promising start to life in north London, picking up five goals and four assists in all competitions.

As such, while Arteta is a huge admirer of Semenyo, who currently resides in the top 20 of the Premier League Player Power Rankings, it may be better to invest in other areas of the squad.
