Just in: Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool made contact today to sign ‘world-class’ star in January

Liverpool are stepping up their efforts to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth next month, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Cherries star, who was described as 'world-class' by teammate Justin Kluivert, is attracting plenty of attention thanks to a special clause in the contract that he signed at the Vitality Stadium in the summer.

As per the terms of that deal, Semenyo has a £65million release clause in his contract that comes into effect on January 1st, with an end-date of January 10th on the clause.

Among the clubs interested in signing him next month are Liverpool, Man City, Manchester United and Tottenham, while Chelsea and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest.

Romano delivered an update on the Semenyo talks, suggesting that the Reds have now stepped up their interest in the forward, having held talks in the last 24 hours.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: "Liverpool, in November made contact to understand the structure of the release clause at £65million and how many years to pay. So Liverpool wanted to understand the structure of the deal on both the player and club side.

"Liverpool didn't proceed, but the injury of Alexander Isak, who is going to be out for several months, could change their plans.

So all of these four clubs are talking to Antoine Semenyo's camp, even today, all of them are in constant contact — presenting their technical project, presenting their vision, presenting their financial proposals, and trying to make it happen for one of the best players in Premier League this year."

Semenyo Would Be Ideal Addition For Liverpool'

Semenyo is undoubtedly a player who would be a top addition for Liverpool. Currently, United and City are the frontrunners to sign the Bournemouth star next month, with the Reds assessing their options, Tottenham out of the race, and Arsenal not currently as active as the Manchester clubs in the race for the sought-after attacker, GMS sources have revealed.

For Slot's side, a move could make perfect sense following the injury suffered by Alexander Isak. Facing two months on the sidelines, the Reds can't afford to have just Hugo Ekitike available as a natural forward at Anfield. As good as he's been, Liverpool need options if they're going to challenge on all fronts.

After a poor start to the season, Liverpool can't afford to take any risks and so a move for Semenyo seems to make real sense, both in the short and long run.
